SING 2 (PG) Review
Sing 2 follows on from the 2016 animated feature following Buster Moon (Matthew McConaughey) wanting to put on a dazzling show at his theatre. Sing 2 now sees Moon wanting to take his show to the entertainment capital.
I saw the original Sing movie a few years ago, so it is not fresh in my mind so I can't compare Sing 2 to the original. However, from the little that I can remember from Sing, Sing 2 seems to be more memorable.
For starters, the movie was certainly entertaining. At no point throughout the hour and 50 minutes was I bored. In fact, as I was writing that sentence, I was surprised to find out that the movie was only slightly less than two hours; the movie did not feel this long. I was even going to say that I'd be happy for the film to be longer. What helped add to the excitement and entertainment of the movie was that it kept moving along quickly, maybe a little too quickly. I would have preferred for the movie to be slightly longer and slowed down at certain points to allow the audience to catch up; perhaps even explore certain elements of the movie more. However, if the movie had been longer, then it may have been hard for kids (the target audience) to focus for that length of time.
Another admirable aspect of Sing 2 was that it felt well thought-out. The movie didn't feel like a bunch of cheap jokes thrown together to make a mildly entertaining film. The story was genuinely creative and built upon what Sing had set up but didn't feel like a replica. And even with this intricate and original idea, the movie was easy to understand and was ideal for its target audience.
I love it when kids/family movies uphold their promise and are fun for the whole family. Sing 2 nailed this on the head. The jokes were funny not just for kids but also for adults/teens. Additionally, there were probably some jokes which kids found funnier but other ones which the grown-ups enjoyed more. One of the highlights for me from Sing 2 were the big singing numbers. I always wanted to jump up and dance along. Furthermore, the choreography of these scenes was amazing. This was another aspect that felt thought-out.
The animation was also impressive, particularly on the characters. All the characters were loveable and unique and, even though they were all talking animals, they felt like real people. The voice-acting also added to this realism. The actors' and actresses' voices felt perfect for the characters that the animation department had created.
Sing 2 is the perfect school holiday movie for the family. There is no shortage of entertainment in this movie and the production process of the movie did not appear to be rushed or had corners cut. Although the plot wasn't the most intriguing thing ever, the jokes, songs and animation made the audience want to stay in their seats.
