My 5 Favourite Easter Movies
Easter is not far away! Although it feels like we've had hot cross buns in the supermarket since Boxing Day (which we have!), Easter Friday is only a week and half away! When we think of Easter, we often think of chocolate, Easter bunnies, and Spring. We don't often think of many good movies about Easter. But there are actually some great movies out there and in this article I'm going to cover my five favourite Easter movies.
HOP (G)
Hop is a perfect mix of animation and live-action. The soon-to-be Easter Bunny, affectionately known as E.B, has grown up admiring his dad's work and is ecstatic to one day be the actual Easter Bunny. But now that E.B is a teenager, all he wants to do is play drums and chooses to run away from Easter Island to become a drummer in a famous rock band. While E.B is gone, a revolution is brewing among the Easter Chicks.
RISE OF THE GUARDIANS (PG)
For much of my childhood, Rise of the Guardians was my all-time favourite movie. For a long time, the guardians of the world have protected young children from the darkness. Over many years, the Man in the Moon has chosen the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, and Sandman watch over the young ones. One Easter, the guardians need help. The guardians' nightmare, Pitch Black (AKA the Boogeyman), has grown stronger and will soon cover the world in darkness. The Man in the Moon makes a controversial decision to make the irresponsible Jack Frost a new guardian. Jack Frost will overcome his fears and resist temptation to rise up against Pitch Black.
ZOOTOPIA (PG)
Although Zootopia isn't a specific Easter movie, it is a hilarious movie about a rabbit so it's made the list. Zootopia (or Zootropolis as it's known on Disney+ AU) follows the story of a rabbit who has always wanted to become a cop in the big city of Zootopia. It is a story about hard work and perseverance.
PETER RABBIT (PG) / PETER RABBIT 2: THE RUNAWAY (G)
Again, Peter Rabbit isn't actually an Easter movie, it is about a rabbit and is set in Spring. Beatrix Potter's story of Peter Rabbit is brought to the big screen with stars such as James Cordon, Domhnall Gleeson, Daisy Ridley, and Rose Byrne. After old Mr. McGregor dies of a heart attack, a younger Mr. McGregor inherits his house including the gigantic vegetable garden prone to pests. Peter and his friends must find a way to bring harmony to the woods otherwise a war might break out. A sequel to Peter Rabbit is coming out at the end of March just in time for Easter.
THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: THE LION, THE WITCH, AND THE WARDROBE (PG)
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (yes, a big name!) is inspired by the famous C.S. Lewis book of the same name. The book retells the events of Jesus Christ's death and resurrection through an inspirational story. The tale follows four young children who find the magical land of Narnia which is currently ruled by the evil White Witch. They have been prophesied to bring peace to the land.
