IRON MAN 2 (M) Review
Iron Man 2 is the sequel to the hit movie Iron Man. It continues the story of Tony Stark after he reveals to the world that he is the one behind the red and gold suit. He must fight new enemies and learn more about what it means to be a superhero.
It is often the case with movies that the sequel isn't as good as the original; Iron Man 2 is no exception to this rule. Its storyline, for starters, wasn't as good as the first and didn't have many new elements to bring to the table. The few new elements that it did have were interesting and left the door open for more stories but were also a little confusing. At times it felt like a redo of the original Iron Man, only a redo that wasn't as good and had a slightly different story. The storyline was also somewhat predictable which led to a less engaging experience.
Additionally, there wasn't anywhere near as much action in Iron Man 2 as there was in Iron Man. The little bit of action that was there was spectacular of course, but it didn't have a good balance like the first Iron Man.
I thought the cast of Iron Man 2 was excellent and there was some superb acting. Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow were admirable once again. Although we didn't get to see Terrence Howard reprise his role, Don Cheadle did a favourable job of exploring the character of James Rhodes further. Characters such as Natalie Rushman, Justin Hammer, Nick Fury, and Ivan Vanko were also portrayed exceptionally by their appropriate actors.
If you loved the first Iron Man then you may enjoy Iron Man 2, but it's not a must-see. For someone who wants a good movie about the superhero, Iron Man 2 isn't for you; you need to have seen the original first. I'd watch Iron Man and then decide if I wanted to see another movie about the superhero.
When watching this movie, make sure you stay until the end of the credits! In all Marvel movies there is an end-credits scene which teases at the next Marvel movie. I particularly like the one from this movie.
Iron Man 2 is the average sequel to Iron Man which is best left for fans of the fictional superhero.
