GOOD SAM (PG) Review

04/04/2021

Good Sam is an uplifting story about an unknown "Good Samaritan" who is randomly leaving $100,000 in cash on people's doorsteps. We follow a news reporter (played by Tiya Sircar) who tries to find the man who's been so generous.

Good Sam was a charming, easy movie to watch on a Friday night after a long week. It has an exceptional story and really admirable themes and messages. Although the movie had some Christian references and the whole idea was developed because of morals from the Bible, I felt that the story was more about being kind to one other. It was a positive movie with no negative aspects which made for a very easy viewing.

The movie in some ways felt like a detective movie. There weren't any guns or fingerprints, but throughout the whole movie the audience was guessing who this "Good Sam" was. I watched this movie at a Youth Social Event with a few other teenagers. It was a fun movie to watch together as we tried to predict the ending.

One of the downsides of the movie was the lack of humour. Yes, the movie was already uplifting and jubilant, but if there was a bit more humour it would have made the movie more exciting. I also felt that the acting seen in the movie was slightly below average. It definitely could have been better but because of its lack of negative themes, the movie didn't need an incredible cast. It would have been nice though to see slightly better acting.

I think that this movie is best seen in the context in which I saw it: with a group of friends on a Friday night. It was heaps of fun to make predictions and guesses about what was happening (and maybe even make comments on the poor acting!) The movie had messages which could easily be applied to all of our lives and it was a nice way for all of us to end the week.

Good Sam is an easy-going movie with some important themes recommended for younger audiences.
