FLORA & ULYSSES (PG) Review

Flora & Ulysses is a Disney+ exclusive based on the children's book of the same name. The movie is about a girl, played by the young Matilda Lawler, who adores superheroes. One day she comes across a squirrel who has superpowers and helps him to become one of the heroes she has always dreamed about.

Flora & Ulysses is a very cute movie. The characters are all likeable and the story is easy to follow. The humour is the nice type with many funny and adorable animal scenes. And even viewing the movie as not being the targeted demographic, I found myself laughing out loud quite a few times. There is some fantastic character development which is nice to see in a movie which is aimed towards a younger audience. I loved seeing many references to Marvel superheroes and to see the 'magic' which can be found in the real world.

Long story short, Flora & Ulysses is just a good movie. It's nice for parents to know that they're showing their kids a movie which they'll love. We need to see more of these kinds of movies. It is very pure and bright. There aren't any dark scenes but there are still some deeper themes and messages which parents will appreciate. It could honestly go down as a classic family movie. It is hard to find any fault with the movie itself.

I only wish it was more accessible. I did say I couldn't find any fault with the movie itself, didn't I? It is one of those movies which wasn't released in cinemas and is only available to stream on Disney+. After the disaster that was 2020 for the arts industry, cinemas haven't been able to be the exciting place that they once were. Flora & Ulysses is made for families, particularly those which are on the verge of breaking apart. The kids will love it and there are subtle messages which could potentially have a deep impact on the adults. I'm pretty sure that it's also the kind of movie that your pets will love (especially if you have a pet squirrel!).
